quite right too

male, female or other?

forgive any ignorant assumptions i might make here, as a born female, still female as adult i have enough prejudice and subjugation to deal with and understand. i don’t pretend to understand any of the issues facing people of trans-gender status, but i’m open to education as long as you treat me and the subject with the respect we both deserve.

so if you are a pre or post op trans-sexual and you want a passport, or a driving licence, or if you want to vote, what do you put on the form? what about the few people who are androgen sensitive or gender mis-assigned? or those who simply don’t fit the “normal” binary genital sex/gender boxes?

it feels to me like the whole married or single choice you get on forms – ok so now i see more of the married/single/divorced/never married/cohabiting etc as options and quite frankly they’re as confusing as hell sometimes and i’d quite like the option of “none of your business actually”

but male or female, i mean, what else is there? male, female or what?do we need the choice to identify as “born female, assigned female at birth, very happy with that thank you very much and staying that way until i die”? why not just have human – yes/no. mind you i can think of some that might have trouble proving that one….

“The inclusion of eunuchs and transgenders as ‘others’ gives us a separate identity which is what we have always wanted,” said Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, a prominent eunuch activist and founder of campaign group Astitva.

an important step, but “other”? other to me denotes something different, something that doesn’t fit. it’s a label i find fits me well and i’m happy with it as it rejects all other labels and boxes and stereotypes i might be forced into, but is it really what is needed here?
